What about homes without a forced air system of ductwork?
In cities, towns and rural areas alike there are many lovely older homes heated by radiators. Lots of other homes are heated in a variety of ways including wood stoves and electric baseboards heaters.
Quantum Geothermal and our affliliates focus our efforts exclusively on retrofit projects of homes that have an existing system of ductwork or homes that will be reconstructed after major renovations with a new system of ductwork.
There are many things that can be done to improve every home. Unfortunately, employing geothermal energy may not be practical in all cases.
On a more positive note, we have started to receive inquiries from Toronto homeowners about alley and laneway residences. These are smaller living accomodations set back from the street. These residences are often proving to be difficult to service from the existing city utility infrastructure and may provoke significant cost and disruption to the property. Perhaps by installing renewable solar PV and geothermal systems in many of these converted dwellings we can built them better.
A ground source geothermal system may be practical for some of these properties but we believe an air source heat pump will be the best solution for many of these prospective new dwellings.
