Geothermal heating and cooling systems have a surprisingly long history. The first patent on a ground loop heat exchanger was registered in 1912. The first functional geothermal heat pump system was installed in 1945.

In Canada, there are many examples of geothermal heating systems that have been in use for over 30 years. In the past 10 years the industry has experienced rapid growth and popular acceptance as refinements to the equipment, improved design and installation techniques, the continuing rise in conventional heating fuels costs and public awareness of the environmental impact of burning fossil fuels are combining to drive the ever greater use of geothermal heating systems.

Geothermal heating and cooling systems have become a mainstream technology. In particular, there has been a significant increase in the number of new custom residential homes built using geothermal systems. Quantum Geothermal has been privileged to participate in both the design and construction of many large new custom homes during the last 10 years.
