If your home has an existing ground source heat pump that has reached the end of its functional service life there is an opportunity to replace the unit with a new heat pump. To qualify under the GreenOn rebate program the unit must be 20 years old or older. Typically, heat pumps will last 25 to 35 years (which it should be noted is longer than most furnaces will typically last) but eventually even these reliable old units will require replacement. Replacing old units has been a small but recurring part of Quantum’s business and we continue to receive inquiries from homeowners for this service each year.
The rebate program for retrofit equipment is less significant than the program for a new installations, but nevertheless, it still provides a reduction in the cost of a typical replacement project. The rebate for retrofitting old heat pumps is based on the tonnage (size) of the heat pump and offers homeowners a rebate of $750 / ton.
