Heat pumps have been used to heat and cool homes in Ontario since the 1960s. Many of these early units lasted for 20 – 30 years. Since the mid 1970s the number of heat pumps installed each year grew rapidly to the point where today there are thousands of these older units in service. Each year Quantum Geothermal receives inquiries from homeowners who own an older model of heat pump which has served it’s time and is ready to be replaced.
Perhaps you own an old geothermal heat pump and are wondering what what would be involved to replace it. Typically, this is a straight forward, one day operation.
If you own an old air source heat pump we can upgrade your home to a ground source geothermal heating and cooling system. This project involves removing the outdoor air source unit and the auxiliary electric (or gas fired) furnace located in your basement. Complete our evaluation survey and start a dialogue with us.
It is helpful if you can include information on the make and model of the existing heat pump and ( in the case of ground source systems) the size and location of the existing ground loop. If you also have the original excavation report that is very useful.
We offer a free evaluation and can quickly tell you if your heat pump is a good candidate for replacement with an upgraded unit.
